Trifecta

Three things.

One. Something interesting for you museum-goers. The NYTimes reported that archaeologists in Guatemala uncovered a 30 foot x 3 foot Mayan painting. AND it is in tip top shape. Just look at this for a second…

It’s beautiful. It has some floral elements surrounding it that seem so familiar. Almost contemporary. Looks like graf or some cool design.

The figure itself has some depth and good porportions. Did I mention that it’s also the earliest Mayan art ever found? 100BC. According to the article, The Classical Mayan period hits at about seventh century. For perspective, here’s a quote:

“In Western terms,” said William Saturno, an archaeologist at the University of New Hampshire who is a research associate at Harvard, “it’s like knowing only modern art and then stumbling on a Michelangelo or a Leonardo.”

Read more about the article and check the bit about the green room.

Two. Just barely related to this… is a painting I did a while back. It’s about a person I met from Guadalajara named El Nacho. It’s not the creation of man, but I guess, more about the purchase of good barbeque.

Three. Louie Del Carmen and I used to eat good barbeque on top of a building near the corner of Sunset and Vine. Good ol’ Klasky-Csupo in Hollywood, CA! Where the stars are born!… cue up the “That’s Entertainment” theme. I saw Louie at the “Three Trees Make A Forest” art show in Alhambra, CA a few weeks back. If you missed it, there were some heavy hitters on deck. Read more about the show here. Thanks for the shout Louie… and thanks again.

That Mayan Piece is awesome. I can’t believe there are more arts to be found. That’s a good thing. And dude, I remember that painting. I like your stuff. And you need to paint more.
